Amazon has announced it will be holding an AI conference later this year called ‘re:MARS’ which is open for the public to attend.

The AI-focused conference will feature speakers, workshops, demonstrations, and roundtables.

Amazon has been holding a similar conference simply called MARS (Machine learning, Automation, Robotics, and Space) for the past three years. That event, however, was invite-only.

Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon, said:

“We’re at the beginning of a golden age of AI. Recent advancements have already led to inventions that previously lived in the realm of science fiction—and we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible.

AI is an enabling technology that can improve products and services across all industries. We’re excited to create re:MARS, bringing together leaders and builders from diverse areas to share learnings and spark new ideas for future innovation.”

Bezos used his private MARS event to rub elbows with the best in the industry and said its success was based on whether they ‘find something inspiring.’ Re:MARS is likely more aimed towards assuring the public its AI efforts won’t be harmful after recent backlashes.

Re:MARS speakers include Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer at Amazon; Andrew Lo, the Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and director of the MIT Laboratory for Financial Engineering; Ken Goldberg, William S. Floyd Jr. Distinguished Chair in Engineering, UC Berkeley; Tom Soderstrom, IT Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Kate Darling, Research Specialist at the MIT Media Lab and Affiliate at the Harvard Berkman Center; and many more.

The conference will take place from June 4-7 at the ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh, and astronauts can attend free.
